How does MIO™ capture the images from the devices?

July 6th, 2009 by olopez

The products of the MIO family have various functionalities to guarantee the capture of images practically from any medical device, and the generation of new images from existing data or files.

Capture from folder (Manual)

MIO LT™ and MIO Comm™ allow to open images (DICOM, jpg, bmp, etc) from a Windows folder manually selected by the user.

Capture from folder (Automatic)

MIO Server™ permits the automatic DICOM conversion of all the images located in a specific Windows folder or DICOM repository as long as they are correctly identified. This functionality is very useful to carry out migrations, even from PACS to PACS.

Via DICOM SEND

MIO LT™, MIO Comm™ and MIO Server™ can act as “PACS”, this is, as SCP of DICOM Store. This means that MIO is able to directly receive the DICOM images sent by the modality through a DICOM send. This makes sense to guarantee the integration of those devices that generate DICOM images but do not have DICOM services that facilitate their integration (for instance, the capacity to retrieve a DICOM worklist).

Via DICOM PRINT

MIO LT™ and MIO Comm™ can act as “DICOM printer”, this is, as SCP of DICOM PRINT. This means that MIO is able to directly receive the DICOM images sent by the modality through a DICOM PRINT. This makes sense to guarantee the integration of those devices that can print DICOM but do not have DICOM services that facilitate their integration (for instance, the capacity to retrieve a worklist). A typical example would be some scanners of radiological films.

Via framegrabber

MIO LT™ and MIO Comm™ permit the realization of secondary captures of the images generated by the modality, as long as this has a video output (1). To this end, video capture cards certified by C2C (2) are deployed.

When MIO™ is configured for secondary capture, the main interface of the application incorporates a DirectDraw viewer for real-time visualization of the image/video to be captured.

(1) Allowed outputs: Composed video (RCA or BNC connection) and S-Video (S-VHS)
(2) CANOPUS ADVC 55 and MATROX HELIOS, depending on the signal to be captured.

From an FTP server

MIO LT™ and MIO Comm™ can act as FTP client to recover the images of a specific FTP folder.

CD DICOMDIR import

MIO LT™ and MIO Comm™ permit the import of images stored in a DICOM CD, conveniently identified and ordered, according to the DICOMDIR structure of the CD. It is possible even to simultaneously open the images of various patients at the same time, without losing the identification or the order.

PACS Query & Retrieve

MIO Comm™ permits the realization of PACS requests for the retrieval of certain images, identified by patient, study, series, etc. The parameters of the request can be entered manually from MIO™.

Plug-in: DICOM Virtual Printer

MIO LT™ incorporates, in one of its plug-ins, a DICOM virtual printer for Windows systems, useful for the DICOM conversion of any type of file used by Windows applications. With MIO LT™ open and in context, the files of practically any format (*.doc, *.xls. *.txt, *.pdf, etc, etc) are converted into DICOM and transferred to MIO simply by carrying out a print request.

Plug-in: Automatic capture from memory/USB drive

This plug-in is very useful for the integration of conventional photographic cameras and other USB devices. With MIO LT™ open and in patient context, the images are automatically transferred from the USB drive to MIO™. Only the last captured images are transferred.

Style sheets

MIO LT™ and MIO Comm™ permit the generation of DICOM images from the data captured from the integrated device and from style sheets. This allows, for example, the creation of reports that incorporate the results provided by the device, presented and organized according to a template, including (if needed) in the final image any information such as patient data, service, hospital logo, etc.
