What happens if the device to be integrated does not have a worklist nor an agenda in the RIS?
It is not strange to have the need of storing in PACS images coming from a device that does not have agendas in the RIS. This can happen for various reasons. For example, in an emergency environment the patient is not previously appointed. Also, in some specialties (such as dermatology, ophthalmology, etc.) the patient has an appointment to visit the doctor but a study may not be done (dermatography, retinography, etc). Even in some cases, due to internal policy, managers may not want to activate in RIS modalities outside radiology.
In all these cases, when there is no agenda available for the modality or device, the identification of the patient must be done by using another method. MIO LT™ has different mechanisms to obtain patient data, apart from the retrieval of a worklist:
- Launching MIO LT™ from the HIS, with the patient data preloaded.
- Capturing them from an identifying file, created by the HIS or any other information system.
- Entering the data manually in the instant of the capture. [This method is not recommended because of the risk of generating errors (typographic) and for its low efficiency].
The MIO™ product family can also solve the situation in which there is no worklist server for the modalities. Specifically MIO Comm™ is able to, based on the patient data and appointment provided by the HIS, generate a worklist for each modality.
In this case MIO Comm™ would obtain the patient data in some of these ways:
- Receipt of HL7, XML or proprietary messaging
- Web Service call
- ODBC connection to database
- File preload
Afterwards, MIO Comm™ would generate the worklist and it would provide it to the modality or to the MIO LT™ responsible for the image capture. (MIO Comm™ would act as SCP of DICOM Worklist for the modality).
